Latest service changes

The updated assay and price list for 2023-24 is now available and came in to force from 1 April 2023.  We have tried to minimise price increases as much as possible.

Significant changes:

Isocyanates

We continue to stress the importance that only the isocyanates in use in the workplace are requested for analysis.  We are happy to advise which isocyanates to monitor if safety datasheets are provided (email them) - please 'order' this service online.  Requesting additional isocyanates when they are not required can lead to interpretation challenges, which is why we are recommending only the isocyanates used on the day of sampling are requested. Online ordering is now available for all isocyanates singly.

Urinary Solvents

Where requesting the measurement of the solvent itself in urine (rather than a metabolite), please ensure that the sample bottles are filled to the shoulder to minimise losses from evaporation. This applies to tests such as dichloromethane (DCM), butanone (MEK), MIBK, acetone, tetrahydrofuran (THF) and toluene.

Test changes

In order to continue to provide certain services, some tests have been moved from a price-per-sample basis to a bespoke basis (which incurs a minimum charge). This change applies to selenium and thiocyanate (for cyanide and other organonitriles). Mercury in urine is still available on demand per sample but turnaround time has been increased to 20 working days. Although blood lead and cadmium are available on the standard price list, they are subject to a minimum order of four samples for invoicing; if you require fewer than four samples, please order online (your account will need to be pre-approved, see below).

Online ordering

In order to minimise price rises, we are encouraging online ordering (and payment) for smaller numbers of samples.  Currently online ordering is available for the most common tests and we have now added urine antimony, benzene (as S-PMA) and styrene (as mandelic acid) to the list. To order blood sampling kits, your account needs to be pre-approved - please contact Sample Registration.

Online ordering of tests requiring blood samples

As blood sampling needs to be undertaken by specialist staff, we have moved online ordering of blood tests to a restricted area of the website. To access this, you will need to set up an account on the website and then inform Sample Registration (using a corporate email address) that you would like access, providing the name of the account. We will then enable your account and you can proceed with ordering.

Important changes to the Request Form

We continue to enforce the use of anonymised codes for workers in order to comply with GDPR. Please do engage with us to agree the coding and ensure that you use the same worker ID for each worker each time samples are sent for analysis. Further information on GDPR is available on our website.

We look forward to providing a high quality analytical service to you in the coming year. As ever, if there are analyses that do not appear on the list that you are interested in, please contact Sample Registration. Thanks.
