Major Projects

At any one time, HSE is usually involved in a number of large, publicly-funded projects. These projects are described here and, where possible, we give links to their outputs or to other websites set up as part of the project.

CO2PipeHaz

The European CO2PipeHaz project addressed knowledge gaps in the hazard and risk assessment of CO₂ pipelines used in Carbon Capture and Storage systems. More details, including the resulting Good Practice Guidelines can be found here.

Long Term Health Studies

The Health and Safety Executive has ongoing long-term health studies, established as part of its role in protecting the health of British workers:

• The Asbestos Workers Survey, set up in 1971 as a health surveillance study
• The Pesticide Users' Health Study, started in 1998 as a health surveillance study
• The Prospective Investigation of Pesticide Applicators' Health (PIPAH) study, launched in 2013 as a follow-up cohort study
• Health Impact Assessment and Surveillance: Foundry workers (Ref: 12/NW/0048) and Silica Workers (Ref: 12/NW/0049)
