The Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) assessment tool is the
latest tool in the range from HSE Publications and Products. It
combines HSE's popular MSD assessment guides MAC, ART and RAPP and
transforms them into an all-in-one digital solution.
Employers and safety representatives can use the MSD tool to
easily assess the risks posed by physical and strenuous work
activities. Assessors can then understand, interpret, categorise
and communicate the levels of risk present in routine tasks.
It has been designed to simplify the process of completing each
assessment, with a logical step-by-step approach, saving assessors
time in populating the results manually.
An increasing number of organisations, both in the UK and
overseas, are proactively using the MSD tool to measure and gain a
deeper understanding of their workers' health and wellbeing.
Trusted and used by organisations of all sizes across various
industry sectors, the MSD tool has garnered widespread adoption.
Customers consistently report significant benefits from using the
tool including enhanced employee engagement and commitment to
health and safety, a notable reduction in workplace accidents, cost
savings and the demonstration of effective leadership.
One of these organisations, Turners (Soham) Ltd, is a
well-established logistics and transportation company, employing
over 4,000 people in the UK.
The Challenge
Turners are known for their commitment to excellence and the
company offers a dynamic and supportive work environment. They
complete around 50 MSD assessments each year and recognised that a
standardised approach to managing MSD risks to inform their risk
assessments would provide greater consistency.
Turners found the ideal solution in the new HSE MSD digital tool
and made the decision to use it as the preferred method of
conducting their MSD risk assessments.
The Outcome
Commenting on their experience, the Health and Safety Manager at
Turners found the online MSD tool 'very simple to use' and
it 'can quickly provide insight into areas of risk'.
This has been of particular benefit to Turners, who report that
the tool 'has helped identify key aspects of risk that should
be addressed through preventative or mitigation measures'.
The Solution
By using the tool to address such risks, other organisations can
enhance their operations and reduce overall risk levels.
In fact, Turners encourage other organisations to 'give it a
try' because of the user-friendly nature of the tool and its
ability to identify risks in businesses with similar
challenges.
