Safe Net Zero 2025: Safety considerations for the production and large scale storage of hydrogen and its derivatives

In the Autumn 2024 Budget, the UK government announced further
investment in hydrogen production and infrastructure, bolstering
confidence for those working in this area.
To make Great Britain a safe, green energy superpower, new
hydrogen production and storage projects need to build in safety
from the start, whilst existing ones need to continue to manage
safety risks effectively throughout the project lifecycle.
To help industry, government and academia achieve this, HSE is
once again bringing together key hydrogen stakeholders to share
knowledge and experiences, so that together they can ensure the
safe development and roll out of hydrogen technologies.
We have put together a two-day programme of safety-focused
thought leadership and the latest technological insights from
several major UK and international projects producing and storing
both hydrogen and its derivatives.

Learn what our previous event delegates have to say about our
Safe Net Zero series:
'The quality of the speakers' presentations provided
new insight into an ever changing and evolving path towards net
zero.'
'I thought the event was great - I learned a lot about
the different industries who will be looking to utilise H2
(aviation, marine etc) and areas of innovation.'
'Very useful conference. Good to see how other
industries are getting to grips with hydrogen and hydrogen
safety.'
'Hands down one of the best hydrogen events I've ever
attended and would definitely attend again. The calibre of speakers
was excellent and undoubtedly made the event what it was. Loved
every second, took an unholy amount of notes, HSE's reputation
remains at its peak.'
'Really great balance between a broad range of
industry/academic speakers and always being focused on hydrogen
safety.'
'The event was very well organised and covered a wide
range of different business types that have, or may use hydrogen in
its different forms. That breadth gave me the opportunity to use
the lessons learnt and learn about the research being carried out
in different industries to tackle some of the safety issues with
production, distribution and use of hydrogen.'
'Great event. We need this forum to understand the
future of hydrogen and the energy supply portfolio for the UK and
its risks.'
