Biological Monitoring for Chemical Exposures at Work

Live Online

10 October 2023

Introduction

Attending this workshop will give you a practical and informative overview of biological monitoring. You will be introduced to the fundamentals of biological monitoring and shown how it can be a useful and cost-effective tool for occupational hygiene and health professionals to assess and control exposure to substances in the workplace.

Biological monitoring is based on the analysis of hazardous substances or their metabolites in urine, blood, or breath, and is used to assess chemical exposures by inhalation, ingestion and absorption through the skin.

It is particularly valuable where control of exposure relies on personal protective equipment or where substances may be absorbed through the skin. It can also be used to investigate the behavioural aspects of exposure controls.

This workshop provides an overview of biological monitoring and how it can enhance the service that occupational hygiene and health professionals offer. There is also a practical, interactive learning element using relevant case studies to develop your learning.
